Episode 116
“Fake it til you make it:” good advice or BS?
In this episode of S*%! People Say, I take a look at the pros and cons of the old adage “fake it til you make it.” I see people proclaiming online that this is bad advice, but I think there’s a time and a place to push through feelings of inadequacy.
There are a lot of fakers in this world; people who pretend to have all the answers but they don’t or who are trying to scam people (see: Elizabeth Holmes, Anna Delvey). But there are plenty of situations where faking it can help give you the confidence to do something you may be too scared to do.
So, when should you fake it til you make it? Tune in to hear some examples of when it’s worked for me, and when it could make sense for you.
